LEWIS KNAUSS

Lewis with "RETURNING GRASSES"
Knauss’ work
reflects a return to the landscape. Each image is created thread
by thread, line by line allowing them to be interpreted as landscape
textures which are naturally created blade by blade, leaf by leaf.
Each meticulous piece marks a moment in time, or a memory from a
place where Knauss was once connected. From Ohio to Saratoga Springs,
New York, Philadelphia and Colorado to the enchanting deserts of
the Southwest, Knauss becomes one with each landscape. By tending
to details and noticing subtle changes he becomes part of rather
than apart from his surroundings.
Knauss received an MFA from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University.
He served as acting chair of the fiber department at Tyler School
of Art, and is on the faculty of the Moore College of Art and Design
and Philadelphia University.
